Most digital images benefit from some degree of image editing. However, overdone it can look fake and make the person look like they're made from plastic. I do not take it to these extremes and take a realistic approach with my retouching. As an example if you move your mouse over the retouched sample of skin on the right you will see the original image. Notice that spots and blemishes are gone but that it still retains the texture of skin and not that of a plastic doll.

Retouching is not only useful for enhancing portraits but also for improving landscape shots, product shots, etc.

There are several basic processes involved in retouching an image:

• Removal of blemishes or imperfections
• Skin softening (if required)
• Reshaping or sculpting elements in the image
• Colour correcting
• Correcting brightness and contrast of image or specific areas of the image

There can be other steps involved such as replacing certain elements in an image or converting to black & white but the above steps are the basic steps involved in most image retouching.

I have years of experience in retouching images and high standards of quality. I mainly use Adobe Photoshop to edit all my pictures.

Damaged or faded photographs can be restored to their former glory through the use of digital editing. Tears, fold marks, stains, over or under-exposure, fading and even unwanted elements in a picture can all be corrected.
